Students presented our Glen Lea Post Office at LifeReady 25 before Spring Break, showing the way that we send letters and notes to each other. Students write notes, design stamps, add postmarks, and deliver the mail each day at Glen Lea, promoting writing for authentic purposes.

Grateful to HCPS Libraries & the EDO Office for bringing Nic Stone, who spoke about the importance of representation in books and shared ways she gets inspired. We know many Lions who dream of being writers -- and can't wait to see them on a stage like this one day.

Our kindergarten students have grown so much this year! They've built their letter knowledge, started writing sentences, and learned to follow multi-step directions during activities. They've researched, written, and so much more. Way to go, kindergarten!

Check out this video of our students at Black History Night last month. We loved seeing them shine in so many different ways!

This year's Black History Night was spectacular, from choir to cheer to STEP, followed by students showing their research and presentation skills in our Living Wax museum. We sang, cheered, and learned as a community as our students blew us away with their talent and hard work.

We are so grateful to Henrico Education Foundation's support for our students. We received exciting engineering materials in the library, thanks to a LifeReady grant. Check out our 3rd grade students in action as they build simple machines here: https://youtu.be/plGQnKUFQ_E

Work hard -- play hard! Students celebrated ROAR behaviors on Fun Friday earlier this month through board games, sports stations, and even an Orbeez party! Students have grown so much this year, and we can't believe the end is almost here. One more Fun Friday in May!

Shout out to Ms. Fines, for showing our students the fun and beauty of a photography career. She hosted a photo booth at our recent Career Day, which allowed students to explore being in front of and behind the camera. We loved seeing their big smiles and friendship in each pic!

Flashback to Career Day 2025, with special thanks to Mrs. Rice and Mrs. Brown for putting together our fun day of learning! Students learned about nonprofits, small businesses, and even heard from Senator Lamont Bagby. We know our Lions have big dreams for their futures!

Save the date -- in just 2 weeks, we get to watch our Lions shine at our Talent Expo! Students will be singing, dancing, & playing instruments on stage, while our artists, collectors, & makers will be sharing their work at a mini gallery in our hallways. Thursday 4/24 at 5:30pm.

We are excited about welcoming our Lions back to the building tomorrow! Wear sunglasses and beach hats to celebrate how BRIGHT you all are! We are also kicking off the Spring book fair on Tuesday, with grandparents breakfast on Wednesday. RSVP at https:/ /tinyurl.com/25GLESBF

Happy St. Patrick's Day from the Glen Lea library! We came to school to find that those pesky leprechauns had broken their traps, escaped, and left a mischievous mess all over our dear library! They were kind enough to leave gold and chocolate, so we'll forgive them this time :)

Flashback Friday: Thankful for so many members of our community joining us for this year's Be Mine Breakfast, and to our wonderful Student Support team for making it happen! We love seeing the smiles and excitement of our families as they share the special day together.

Students of all ages practiced coding in the library using Code & Go mice, Ozobots, computers, and even TikTok dances! They learned that coding is a process of giving specific directions to make an action happen. We saw some cool dances, obstacle courses, and even remixed songs!

Every 3-4 weeks, students use their points to shop the ROAR cart. Last month, students bought bouncy balls, notebooks, & cool experiences. Some had lunch with Mr. Gordon, while others had robot recess, slime party, or bracelet making with friends! Earn those ROAR points, Lions!

Annual Slime Day is one way we celebrate at Glen Lea! Students who showed responsibility, organization, achievement, & respect could elect to make their own slime in the library. Students look forward to this all year! H/T white vinegar is AMAZING at cleaning up slime :)

Second shout out to Mrs. Massenburg, one of Glen Lea's recent Yay of the Day recipients! Our staff and students are so grateful for her "can do" attitude and the way she starts each day fresh, with a smile for everyone in her path. She is one of many amazing YAYs here at GLES!

Kindergarten students read The Little Red Hen in the library, debating the meaning of "fair" before practicing working together and taking turns to make hot cocoa. It was especially awesome to see so many students practicing patience with each other as we cooperated!

We love our Henrico County firefighters! Thank you for helping us review how to be safe in an emergency. Our students practiced how to call 911, exit a house safely, and reunite at their safe meeting point. They also learned about dispatch, firefighting gear, and more.

Preschool students started exploring coding in January by exploring how coding = giving directions. They gave directions to Code & Go Mice and Ozobots, via buttons and drawing. Several students created mini obstacles to move their mice around!
