As we deepen our focus on learner-centered environments, these 4th graders show what an impact this can have! Ms Johnston's thoughtfulness to the environment shows up in her students' growing focus and productive teamwork. We love the pride in those smiles!

We are excited to welcome Rachel Payne back to the Glen Lea community, beginning July 1. Ms. Payne will join Mr. Gordon (principal) and Mr. Schneck as our second associate principal. She looks forward to building positive relationships & supporting teachers in the coming year.

We miss you already, Lions! Flashback to our kindergarten students at the Children's Museum in May. It might be one of Ms. V's favorite field trips EVER. Students explored their curiosity with magnets, the human body, push/pull forces, and so much more. Those smiles!

It's a week of celebration! Our 5th graders competed in the annual kickball tournament, a culmination of sportsmanship work with Mr. Frederes. Students learn cooperation, communication, trust in their team, and more. Mr. Neal's class won, but it was a nail biter for a bit!

Wow -- check out these brilliant 1st graders, celebrating their hard work with a SNEAKER BALL! Thanks to the 1st grade team & all their supporters for making these smiles happen last Friday. Students danced with all their friends and built lasting memories. Work hard, play hard!

We know how to have a GREAT time together here at Glen Lea! Our last Fun Friday of the year included a "pie" eating contest across grade levels -- no spoons allowed! Check out all of these smiling faces.

Our 1st graders had a GREAT time at the Metro Richmond Zoo yesterday as their learning about habitats and living creatures came to life! Check out those faces as they fed giraffes, learned about bats, watched orangutans, and more. We are so proud of their curiosity & engagement!

Second graders are continuing to build that financial literacy as they practice counting coins -- which also means many opportunities to practice skip counting by 5s and 10s. Students were so determined to master their money that they chose to kept working during a brain break!

Kindergarten students went on their first field trip of the year this week! They visited the VA Museum of History & Culture to learn about maps and community. Their favorite part definitely was exploring and getting their hands on lots of different props!

2nd graders enjoyed their field trip to Lewis Ginter, where they explored different living creatures -- from snails to turtles to caterpillars -- around the beautiful gardens. Students learned more about our very own ecosystems. They were so excitied to share when they came back!

Our 2nd grade students recently had the opportunity to learn more about financial literacy with thanks to Ms Mogel and Ms Shaffer from Towne Bank. We love seeing all the ways our students have learned to save, spend, and decide wants/needs this year!

Last week, we celebrated responsibility, organization, achievement, and respect with a mini golf course in the library! Students tried 10 different holes of varying difficulty, celebrating each other's success. We even had a couple of holes in one!

Kindergarten students have been building their letter and spelling knowledge all year by making words in many different ways! Here they use their letter trays to build "win" in Ms. Johnston's class.

Things were heating up during March's high stakes Fun Friday! Students worked in teams to finish a 100 piece puzzle and Takis before time ran out. The first place team in each grade level won pizza in the library this month. We are so proud of the teamwork we saw!

Nutzy might be the only person who loves reading as much as we do! Thanks to the Richmond Flying Squirrels, students can get a FREE TICKET to the May 15 Flying Squirrels game by reading 8 books! Turn in your bookmarks to Ms. V by May 8th to receive your ticket.

Thank you to our AMAZING counseling team for 2024's Career Day, featuring nurses, orthotists, meteorologists, project managers, & many more. Students stretched their imagination as they dreamed of the future. We can't wait to see how you change the world when you grow up!
