Kindergarten students studied the five senses -- sight, touch, smell, hearing, and taste -- with stories, stations, and more last month. These young scientists used their senses & power of observation to draw the clouds in the sky on one gorgeous day!

Art Club met for the first time this past Thursday, where they worked on creating their own sculptures using wire, hose, and glue. When we stopped by, we saw lots of smiles, encouragement, and joy as students explored their artistic voice more deeply after school.

Last month, Glen Lea students built bridges, towers, & fractions. We made "flabbergasting" foods inspired by world chefs and buses out of recycling. And we explored world records -- finding records for longest nails, most pencils in a beard, & more. We stay busy in the library!

At Glen Lea, we love to reward our students for their hard work. Last month, these kindergarteners earned lunch with their teacher outside & decorating pumpkin cookies together. By having fun together, we also build a sense of belonging for all our Lions!

Celebrating our fabulous 4th grade team, led by the fearless Ms. Farmer! The shirts say "same as a normal teacher, but cooler" -- and we know our students love their 4th grade teachers. We are grateful for the rigorous instruction our 4th graders receive every day!

First graders expanded their knowledge of shapes last month. Classes went for a shape hunt, looking for shapes in the school around them. They also practiced building tangrams with shapes, both on and off pattern block mats!

2nd grade students have been immersed in hands-on exploration of weather and weather tools over the last few weeks. They've used thermometers to find the temperature, noted the rain after last week's storms, & worked together to deepen their understanding in so many ways!

Let's celebrate Glen Lea with a shout out to our dedicated 1st grade teachers! Trent, Pence, Stokesbary, & Parham balance warmth with high expectations everyday while teaching academics and citizenship across the day. We can't wait to see your students' grow this year!

After applications & interviews, we can't wait for our Glen Lea Safeties to start their service around the school this month! Students worked last week to plan how they could help the school, in addition to helping with arrival & dismissal. Next week, they will vote for captain!

Our students love getting books from our book vending machine! Each student receives a token to use on their birthday. They can choose from a variety of fiction & nonfiction. And we didn't forget summer birthdays! Those students will receive a token on their half-birthday.

Let's celebrate our Glen Lea staff! Knighton, Miller, Johnston, & D'Amato are part of our rock solid kindergarten team. Every day, they greet some of our youngest Lions with smiles, build excitement for learning, and model how to be a good citizen in a school community.

We are so grateful to the many ways that our community partners support our school community. Our partners recently worked with Ms. Farmer & Ms. Fines to renovate the teachers' lounge, creating an inviting place for community. We celebrated with our first Foodie Friday!

Our 1st graders had so much fun visiting the Fairfield Public Library last week! We had a picnic lunch before a tour where we saw a play kitchen & tried the light wall. We sang, read, and played together, too. One first grader exclaimed, "This is the best day EVER!"

Last week, our inquisitive third graders took advantage of the beautiful Fall weather to explore living and nonliving things in the environment. Ask your students what they saw on their exploration -- or even try going for a scavenger hunt of your own. Let us know what you find!

We love celebrating our community pride -- and last week was no exception! We celebrated all of the new Lions who have joined us this year. It has been a joy to get to know each and every one of them. We can't wait to see all of their success this year!

We had a blast kicking off our family & community events last week at Back to School Night! Thank you for your continued support. What's next? Save the date, because October 26th is Trunk-or-Treat! More information to come soon.

Don't forget -- Thursday is Back to School Night, from 5:30-7pm. Hear more from Principal Gordon, share you interest in the PTA, and learn about the coming year from your students' teachers. There might even be another guessing game with Ms. V & Ms. Chesworth! See you then!

First graders had the opportunity to touch, smell, and talk about different garden vegetables with Fit4Kids this week. We are loving being outside in the Fall weather! Thank you Fit4Kids for bringing food & science to life for us.

We are thrilled to be one of the recipients of the Curtis & Co Read to Run program this Fall. Our fifth grade students kicked off their reading challenge today with stations where they received backpacks, t-shirts, & 2 free books. Students who read 2 books also get NEW SHOES!

Principal Gordon connected with families yesterday at our first 2023-24 "Good Morning with Gordon" event. Families had the opportunity to build and share their vision with our community while building connections that will support us all year.
